LUFKIN, TX-(Press release)
The building of American history was not without its trials and tribulations – all well-documented in the most elementary of history books.
Certainly there was also, however undocumented, plenty of humor along the way.
Hoping to address this inadequacy of the irreverent, Angelina College Theatre will present as part of its "Outrageous Theater" series "The Complete History of America (Abridged)", written by Adam Long, Reed Martin & Austin Tichnor, in a three-night show scheduled to run from Thursday, April 23rd through Saturday, April 25th in the Angelina Center for the Arts Theater Lab (Rm. 110).
"History" is a satirical look at the history of America, warts and all. Utilizing the talents of three actors to portray the major figures and circumstances in American history, the play takes the audience through a fast-paced evening of comedy. The play harkens back to the vaudevillian era of entertainment, with the prevailing theory being if you don't like what you're seeing, just wait a minute and you'll get something different. It contains political humor from a sophomoric point of view -- truly, things you never learned in school.
Bill Brownstein of the Montreal Gazette wrote of the play, " History has never been this much fun. Or as delightfully mutilated...."
Shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for seniors and students.
Cast and crew members include the following:
