The Angelina College Roadrunners on Saturday fought their way to a hard-earned road split in Paris, beating the Dragons 6-2 in an eight-inning opener before dropping the nightcap by a 5-3 score.
The ‘Runners built a slender 2-0 lead in Game 1 behind a second-inning RBI from Chris Jones and a sacrifice fly by Ryan Wilburn in the sixth.
Reliever John Gaeke couldn't hold on, with Paris sending the game to an extra inning with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Gaeke got the last laugh, however, with AC pushing across four runs in the top of the eighth. Jordan Johnson led off with a walk, and two sacrifice bunt attempts ended up as Roadrunner singles to load the bases. Jones reached on a two-run error, and Grant Clyde doubled the other two home. Gaeke then polished off the Dragons in the bottom half to earn the win instead of the save.
In the nightcap, the Roadrunners battled back from 5-0 down with a three-run fifth, but couldn't locate those final runs that would have led to a road sweep. AC fell 5-3 despite RBI from Ryan Gunhouse and Todd Wallace.
The ‘Runners will host Bossier Parish Wednesday at Roadrunner Field in a doubleheader scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
