March Primary Runoff Election Results

EAST TEXAS - (KTRE) - Longtime family law judge Debra Lehrmann maintained a steady 52% of the vote lead over ex-legislator and evangelical speaker Rick Green in a Republican runoff for the Texas Supreme Court.

It's the only statewide race on Tuesday's runoff ballot. Voters also are selecting party nominees in several congressional and legislative races, none from East Texas.

There are six local runoff races in the KTRE viewing area.

In Angelina County, Delbert Jones has eeked out a win to capture the Democratic nomination from opponent Lenn Runnels.  Jones will now face Republican Primary winner Scott Cooper in the fall.  Cooper defeated Bill Brown in the Republican Primary.  Incumbent County Commissioner, Precinct 4, Lynn George did not seek re-election.

In Nacogdoches County, in the Republican runoff for County Commissioner Precinct 4, Elton Milstead has defeated B.W. Stripling.  Milstead will now face Democrat Lane Bradshaw in the November General Election.  Incumbent Tom Strickland did not see re-election.

Trinity County voters had two local runoff elections to decide.  There's an upset in the Democratic race for County Commissioner, Precinct 2.  Incumbent Jannette Hortman bows out to challenger Bill Burton.  These two emerged from a field of three candidates in the March Primary.  Burton will now go on to face Republican nominee Richard Chamberlin.

Another closely watched runoff from Trinity County is the Democratic race for Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2 between Incumbent Bernie Beard and Howard Kinsel.  Beard managed to hold off his Primary challengers and force the race to a runoff.  Beard manages an impressive win over challenger Kinsel.  There is no Republican challenger.

There was only one locally contested race in the Houston County Primary election and it ended in a runoff.  Ronnie Jordan and Virginia Lewis beat out two other candidates to faceoff in today's runoff election.  The winner assumes the seat currently held by Kathy Bush.  It looks like voters have given the nod to Ronnie Jordan.  Bush is not seeking re-election.

And rounding out today's local runoff elections is the Republican race for Cherokee County Commissioner, Precinct 2 between Steven Norton and Incumbent Kevin Pierce.  The majority of voters supported Norton in a fairly close matchup.
