LUFKIN, TX (KTRE)- Completion of a major component of the highway 59 construction project, means major changes for your drive-time.
A major piece of the puzzle is completed, as the highway 59 project moves forward, months ahead of schedule. Drivers can now use the northbound direct connecter bridge, "Which is going to lift that traffic up and take them right on past Lufkin. They don't have to stay on 59 and go through town. It will just let them down right past Tulane drive," explained Kathi White with the Texas Department of Transportation.
More change is just around the corner.
The Tulane drive bridge is scheduled to open within few weeks, something businesses along highway 59 and of course drivers can all look forward to.
"It's a big hassle having to find other ways to get to where you need to go so it will definitely be a good thing when they open the bridge back up," said driver, David Johnson.
"I'm sure it will be a lot better," said Valarie Wilcox.
"We're planning to have a ribbon cutting ceremony once Tulane drive bridge is ready," said White.
Following these changes, come the finishing touches.
"That includes the landscaping and some painting," said White, who says drivers can enjoy traveling these hopefully less congested roads, as they go about their day.
The target finish date for the highway 59 construction project is the summer of 2011.
Tx Dot says they are months ahead of schedule, thanks to a lot of hard work.
