House, truck destroyed in Lufkin fire

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin fire officials say a cooking accident in the kitchen is to blame for a fire which destroyed an Englewood neighborhood home and pick-up truck.

According to LFD spokesman Steve McCool, the fire started around 2:25 a.m. Wednesday. At least two people were in the home but escaped uninjured.  The home had significant damage and appeared to be a total loss.

"The homeowners got out OK, they appeared to be shaken, but it looked like they were OK," said a neighbor.

The street was partially barricaded for a couple of hours by fire and ambulance units as firefighters worked to control the fire.  They were able to contain the fire and keep it from spreading to nearby homes in the 400 block of Englewood Drive.

No foul play is suspected in the fire, McCool said.
