LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) –The countdown to be counted is coming to an end. Those who still have a Census form around the house, it needs to make it to your mailbox by Friday.
"This is the last little push for you to do it on your own and then you can say, I did my part, have you done yours," said Chairperson of Everyone Counts Committee Guessippina Bonner.
Angelina County is just below the national participation rate, and the next two days could make the difference if those who haven't sent it in just take 10 minutes.
"Many of those communities that need the services most, they are the most skeptical of government, " said Bonner.
"Fearful? Please don't be. We don't care if you're a citizen or not.," she said. "If you're living and breathing in Angelina County, that's all we care about."
The Census Bureau says if you don't fill it out and send it, come May, workers can knock on your door up to seven times, then they start asking your neighbors.
"They're not going to give up either," Bonner explained. "So, if you think you can go shopping or go to the grocery store or go some place when you think they'll show up, they'll be back."
If you don't have a form, the bureau says just pick up the phone and answer the questionnaire.
You can also get one at Lufkin City Hall, Angelina College, or the Angelina County and Cities Health District.
"Get that form in," she said. "If you haven't done it, it's not too late, you don't even have to put a stamp on it."
For every person counted in Lufkin, the city gets more than $6,000. So, mail it off in the next 24 hours to avoid a knock at your door. Make your city count.
If you can't mail the form, you can answer the survey by phone up until April 20. Just call 866-872-6868 between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Also, if you're still interested in a Census job, you can call 866-861-2010.
