LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Some Lufkinites are working to keep prescription drugs out of the water supply.  Millions of pounds of unused medications are improperly disposed of each year.

Abeldt's Gaslight Pharmacy is teaming up with Angelina Beautiful Clean to help the community properly dispose of old medications.  They are accepting expired and unused prescription meds in their original containers.  Everything will be shipped to an incinerator in Carthage.

"They just have nothing to do with them because of the disposal problem," said Jessica Knight with Abeldt's Gaslight Pharmacy.  "No longer are you supposed to flush your medications because of the contamination to the water."

The program will continue Wednesday at Abeldt's from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  They will not accept narcotics, like Vicodin.
