LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - The Angelina County Sheriff's Department last week arrested a Lufkin man who they believe could be connected to a rash of home burglaries reported throughout the county.

According to Lt. Pete Cooper, deputies arrested Garret Deshun Bennett, 18, without incident at a business on Timberland Drive. He is charged in connection to a burglary on the 1500 block of Scotty Beard Road, which is located off State Highway 103 East.

Cooper said Bennett stole a weedeater and leaf blower from the residence and that a neighbor told the victim she had seen someone take the items.

Cooper said burglaries have slowed down noticeably in the county since the arrest.

"We feel like he's possibly linked to other burglaries," Cooper said. "However, that's still under investigation."

Bennett bonded out of jail for $10,000.

"I want to remind the public their help is greatly appreciated," Cooper said. "They're the eyes and ears of our community."
