Murder cases closed in Nacogdoches

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - There were murders last year in Nacogdoches, but tonight... All cases are closed. There were also more armed robberies.

That's what Nacogdoches Police Chief Jim Sevey is sharing at this hour with his bosses, the Nacogdoches City Council.

He wants them to know how law enforcement learns from the statistics, each and every year.

"We had a slight increase in armed robberies which makes us believe that we need to maybe spend a little bit more time with some of our businesses, doing some education there. But in reality, particularly considering the economy, we stayed fairly stable," explains Sevey.

Also in 2009, the Nacogdoches police department became the 29th agency in the state to be recognized by the Texas police chief's association.

The recognition goes only to agencies that follow a strict series of best practices.
