5/7/10 Lufkin Police report

Theft - 1900 Block West Frank Avenue: At approximately 1:45 A.M. on Friday, May 7, 2010, a complainant reported to Lufkin Police Department that unidentified actors stole cigarettes from a storage room of a business located in the 1900 block of West Frank Avenue.  According to the report, the complainant stated that when a Hispanic female and a black male entered the storage room and then left the business, she assumed they were looking for a restroom but later discovered that two cartons of cigarettes had been removed from the storage room.  The report stated that the complainant provided a description of the suspects and the suspects' vehicle and that the incident was referred for further investigation.

Fraud - 200 Block August Lane: On Thursday, May 6, 2010, a complainant reported to Lufkin Police Department that an unidentified actor(s) fraudulently utilized her identifying information to make financial transactions.  According to the report, the complainant stated that following her receipt of collection letters from a Houston-area business she discovered that the actor(s) passed checks bearing her name and address for a bank account that did not belong to her.  The report stated that the incident was referred for further investigation.

Burglary/Building - 4600 Block South Medford Drive: At approximately 8:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 6, 2010, a complainant reported to Lufkin Police Department that unidentified actor burglarized a business' kiosk located within Lufkin Mall.  According to the report, the complainant stated that the actors forced entry into the kiosk by prying open its doors and that three mobile telephones were removed from within the kiosk.  The report stated that witnesses provided descriptions of two suspects, that evidence was collected at the scene that may link the suspects to the burglary, and that the incident was referred for further investigation.

Criminal Mischief - 500 Block Ellis Avenue: At approximately 6:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 6, 2010, a complainant reported to Lufkin Police Department that an unidentified actor(s) damaged three vehicles parked in the 500 block of Ellis Avenue.  According to the report, the complainant stated that the actor(s) sprayed gold paint onto three vehicles parked in the driveway of his residence.  The report stated that the incident was referred for further investigation.

Accident/Major - 1000 Block Allendale Drive: At approximately 5:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 6, 2010, Lufkin Police Department Officers responded to a single vehicle traffic crash in the 1000 block of Allendale Drive.  According to the report, once on scene the officers observed a vehicle on its roof and the vehicle's driver holding his head and stumbling in the roadway.  The report stated that the Officers' investigation leads them to suspect that the driver was intoxicated, that the driver provided a sample of his blood for analysis, and that the completion of the investigation into the crash is pending the results of the blood test.

    During a Monday night special meeting, Nacogdoches Independent School District named Sandra Dowdy the lone finalist for the superintendent position. Dowdy has served as interim for the last several months. Per a press release from NISD, Dowdy was selected from a field of 45 applicants. A state mandated 21-day period must pass between the board naming her as the lone finalist and formally naming her as the next superintendent of Nacogdoches schools.
