NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin third baseman Briana Bishop was named Thursday to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI Softball Team. In the first such honor of her career, Bishop was named to the second team.
Bishop is one of eight Southland Conference athletes to make the team in District VI, which includes schools in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Mississippi.
The senior kinesiology major from College Station, Texas, has a 3.53 GPA and is one of the top sluggers in program history. Bishop holds the SFA career records for home runs with 34 and RBI with 129. Her 83 career walks are also the top mark in program history, and she needs just two more doubles to take over the all-time lead in that category with 37.
This season, Bishop is batting .305 and leads the team with nine home runs and 27 RBI. Her .570 slugging percentage is also tops on the club.
Bishop and the Ladyjacks will close out the regular season this weekend when they host Texas State in a three-game series with the Southland Conference championship on the line. The series will begin Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
