Bridge replacement project underway at Ayish Bayou

LUFKIN TX, (Press release) - A Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) project to replace the bridge at Ayish Bayou on FM 83 in San Augustine County is underway. The roadway will be closed at the bridge starting Monday morning, May 17, 2010.

According to TxDOT, the contractor for the $2.3 million bridge replacement job is Hodges and Son Construction of Omaha, Texas. The project is located between Broaddus and Pineland. TxDOT also said the new bridge will follow the same alignment as the current structure but will be wider. The project is expected to be completed in summer 2011.

During the project, FM 83 traffic will be detoured around FM 705 and FM 1751.  Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time to reach their destinations, observing all traffic control devices in the work zone. Remember, traffic fines double when workers are present.
