FRISCO, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team will try to build on its first Southland Conference championship in program history next week when it competes in the Southland Conference Tournament in San Marcos, Texas. League officials released the tournament seeding and brackets Sunday night.

SFA earned the No. 1 overall seed by virtue of its tie-breaker edge over Texas State, and the Ladyjacks will have a first-round bye in the tournament, which starts Thursday. SFA will meet the winner of the tournament's first game, which pits No. 4 McNeese State against No. 5 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The opening game is set for an 11 a.m. start with the Ladyjacks meeting the winner at 4 p.m.

The other first-round game will match No. 3 UT Arlington with No. 6 Nicholls at 1:30 p.m. No. 2 Texas State will meet the winner of that contest in the late game Thursday, scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.

The winners of the two second-round games will meet on Friday at 4 p.m. with the winner of that contest advancing to the championship game on Saturday at 2 p.m. The championship game will be televised on the Southland Conference Network.

The tournament is a double-elimination format with the champion earning the Southland Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. SFA won the tournament as the No. 4 seed in 2008, the last time San Marcos hosted the event.
