NACOGDOCHES TX, (KTRE) - Blood donors will have something to look forward to the next time they give blood in Nacogdoches.

The Blood Center of East Texas has added more than 2,000 square feet to the donor room. It features TVs with DVD players, a kids' area with an X-Box, and a place for donors to relax and eat fresh-baked cookies. The center's director says the remodel comes at a time when they need blood.

"We really rely on our community, our businesses, our churches, other organizations to step in during the summertime and fill the gap that the students leave," said Mary Frances Bradford, director for The Blood Center of East Texas.

During the summer, she says donors are on vacation and often more patients undergo elective surgeries. Donor Richard Ward gives platelets every few weeks and says the remodel makes it that much easier.

"There's a major need in especially this area with all the operations and every now and then we have these accidents. They need blood and people need to come in. It's something that's very easy to do," said Ward.

To schedule your donation you can go to their Web site at www.givebloodet.org or call 1(888)433-1733. The center is located at 3520 North University Drive in Nacogdoches.
