LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – An East Texas man pleaded no contest to drug possession in state jail, and guilty to an evading arrest.

Calvinski Spencer was arrested in May 2007, after police said they found marijuana and pills in his car.

Thursday he was sentenced to 12 months in state jail for the evading arrest charge.

For the charge of prohibited substance in a correction facility, Spencer will serve six years under community supervision as well as 250 hours of community service. The judge said the appropriate treatment will be selected after this time.

When asked if Spencer needed treatment for substance abuse, he said he believes he can be sober on his own accord.
