NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) – Police say a fight that broke out early Sunday morning resulted in the stabbing of a Groveton man.
According to Cpl. Trent Sobolewski with the Lufkin Police Department, the victim, 29-year-old Steven Mann, of Groveton, was stabbed multiple times in the torso.
Officers responded to a fight in progress call on the 300 block of Fairfield at 3:30 am.
Sobolewski says that upon arrival, those involved in the dispute had already fled the scene.
Officers saw Mann walking along the street, and stopped to help him.
Police arrested Marcus Cannon, 31, of Lufkin, who they saw running away from the area where the fight had started. Even after telling him to stop, Cannon continued to run from the officers.
Cannon is now charged with evading arrest, a state jail felony. Cannon's bond is set at $25,000 and he's being held in the Angelina County Jail.
Steven Mann was taken to Memorial Hospital early Sunday, where he was treated for his injuries, and then released Sunday.
Sobolewski said the stabbing is under investigation, and no suspects have been named at this time.
