Whiddon takes loss against Missouri

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (OSU Athletics ) — The No. 14 Oklahoma State softball team (43-14, 12-7) was shut out by No. 8 Missouri by a score of 5-0 on Saturday evening in the quarter finals of the Big 12 Tournament.

The game remained scoreless through five innings of play before the Tigers (45-10, 12-7) scored two runs in the sixth inning. Missouri hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning and both runners scored on a single by Lindsey Muller. Mizzou tacked on another three runs in the seventh inning when Ashley Fleming hit a three-run home run over the right-center field fence.

Senior and former Huntington Lady Devil Anna Whiddon started in the circle for the Cowgirls and picked up the loss falling to 21-8 on the season. She gave up seven hits for three earned runs, walked two and struck out eight. Freshman Kat Espinosa came in for relief in the seventh inning and gave up one hit for two earned runs and walked two.

Redshirt freshman Tamara Brown went 2-for-2 in the loss and reached base in every at-bat. Megan Castle and Chelsea Garcia each tagged on a hit as well.

Jana Hainey threw the complete game shutout for the Tigers and gave up only four hits and struck out six to improve to 10-2 on the season.
