Nacogdoches Sheriff's Office investigating kidnapping, sex assault

BEAUMONT, TX (News Release) - By Donna McCollum - email

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office has few clues regarding a Monday night kidnapping and sexual assault case, Sheriff Thomas Kerss said.

According to Kerss, a man described as white, in his 20s to 40s, 5'5" to 5'10", muscular build, light brown to blonde hair with possible graying tint, with possible facial hair, entered a home at 9280 FM 343 in the Red Flatt area and confronted two women at gunpoint.

Two children, aged 5 and 18 months, were in the home, Kerss said, and the 5-year-old woke up to see about the noise. The man then handcuffed one of the women and forced her out of the house and into a vehicle, described as an older model dark-colored extended cab Dodge pick-up and left the scene with her.

"The women were still awake," Kerss said. "They were in the kitchen when a man covered by a bandana and ballcap walks in. He was carrying a handgun. He told them to both lie down, but he took only one away, blindfolded. "

He then drove her to an unknown location, possibly in the Rusk/Cherokee County area near the Nacogdoches County line and kept her there for several hours and raped her, Kerss said.

He then released her in a desolate area of Rusk County between Laneville and Mt. Enterprise. The victim walked a long distance before a passing motorist stopped and helped her, around 5 a.m. Tuesday, Kerss said.

The victim is in her mid-20s. Kerss said it appears to have been a stranger abduction.

Kerss said investigators are relying heavily on the public's input on solving the case. Right now, they are eliminating possibilities, visiting job sites to interview workers.

"We'll just throw the net large and see what happens," Kerss said.

Anyone with possible information in the case should call 936-560-7777.
