HUNTINGTON- (KTRE) – Thursday morning was a little bit different for Huntington High School senior Alicia Morris. She made one of the biggest decisions of her life. Morris signed her letter of intent to run track and field at Lon Morris Community College. Morris, will have to change up her wardrobe slightly now going to compete for the Bearkats who's colors are green and yellow instead of her customary red and black from Huntington.
"It means a lot to me and after all the injuries I have sustained over the years to be able to continue doing what I love at the next level is a dream come true," said Morris.
For track and field Coach Kent Willis, an east texas native and SFA graduate. It makes the 45th East Texan he has inked in his first year building both programs from the ground up. He has signed 15 athletes from Angelina County alone whether it is for track or cross country.
"The key is to recruit locally; the support that you get from the parents is flat out amazing. As long as I have a job and I am the head coach we will continue to recruit locally and hit it extremely hard," Willis said.
