NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - By Donna McCollum - email
NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - One of the most unique auctions you will find Saturday is at the Nacogdoches County Law Enforcement Center. The public auction will feature items confiscated in a variety of crimes.
The back lot of the Law Enforcement Center looks like a giant garage sale, but aside from your usual household items, you will find unique selections. The most asked-about item by potential buyers are the numerous eight- liner machines. All of them were confiscated from a gambling shack two years ago.
"Believe it or not, we've had a lot of inquiries from people that just want to purchase maybe a single machine," said Nacogdoches County Sheriff Thomas Kerss. "Or a couple of machines to put in their home for entertainment and that's certainly permissible."
Numerous vehicles line the lot including a tractor cab once used to haul huge amounts of cocaine.
If that is not your style then check out a Classic Oldsmobile which admirers say would make running the roads fun. And If you do not mind the color, how about a luxury Lexus? There are no fighting cocks at this sale, but you can bid on the property where they were found. Its acreage is located in a popular school district.
"Almost four acres in the Woden School District. There's a small house on the property as well as a large metal building," said Kerss.
Lots of sheriffs conduct online sells, but Kerss knows auctions are popular for buyers and spectators. More than 300 people are expected to register.
"We really wanted to give our local citizens the opportunity to bid on these items and go home happy," said Kerss.
It's probably the only place in town you'll find fancy rims for a truck, as well as flippers for snorkeling.
The sheriff's auction begins tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. You can begin registering and viewing at 8:30 a.m. in the morning at the Lightfoot Law Enforcement Center on the Douglass Highway, just off the West Loop
