HUDSON- (KTRE) – Hudson Lady Hornets Chelsey Durbin signed her letter of intent to be a lady bulldog in college. She will play softball at Texarkana Junior College next season. How fitting the relentless firecracker will take her game to the next level. Durbin, who is just an athlete give her a ball and get out of her way and she gets it done. Also the point guard on the basketball team her versatility is what sold Texarkana coach on her abilities to help them right away.
Messina said watching Durbin work out was all it took to see the possibilities from having such a well-rounded player. "Obviously, I was excited about her versatility," Messina said. "She really stood out when she came to work out for me, just because she was so good in both the infield and outfield. The fact that she can contribute from both sides of the plate is a huge plus. "She gives me so many options as a player, and I'm excited to have her."
Durbin is just happy to have a chance to play right away and also to get a chance to leave home and see new things.
"We were talking to a lot of coaches its really far away and I worked really hard plus their giving me a full ride so I couldn't pass up the opportunity," Durbin said.
Hudson softball coach Jimmy Eby is happy that Durbin has an opportunity to play at the next level and it also shows recognition to the Lady Hornets program.
"It says a lot for our program and our school and hopefully we can continue this for the next few years because we have some athletes that are coming up," Eby said.
Hudson softball team advanced to regional quarters this season but were eliminated by Waco Robinson.
Durbin will have a chance to contribute right away either at second base or in the outfield.
