Runoff likely in Argentina presidential election

Buenos Aires, Argentina-AP -- It looks like Argentina's presidential contest is headed to its first ever runoff.

Voters stood in long lines today to pick from a field of five leading candidates.Exit polls show the likely top two candidates will be former President Carlos Menem and rival Peronist Nestor Kirchner, the governor of an oil-rich province.Whoever wins has the daunting task of pulling the once-wealthy nation out of poverty and unemployment. It comes a year after the last elected president was driven from office amid economic chaos and street riots.Menem dominated Argentine politics as a flamboyant free-market advocate from 1989 to 1999.The Peronist party is Argentina's largest and was founded by Juan Peron.
