NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) – Around noon Sunday, Nacogdoches Police got a shots fired call in the 800 block of Richmond Street.

Police said Gerald Thomas, 49, of Hemphill, shot Tore Ratcliff, 28, multiple times after an apparent argument. Ratcliff died underneath the home's carport. Thomas is charged with murder.

A neighbor said his family heard three shots, but thought they were firecrackers, not gun shots.

"I can't believe what happened," said Jose Gomez, neighbor. "It's just, you know, I'm shocked. It's a quiet neighborhood and I mean I've got kids and everything. It's just, you know, you don't expect that."

Gomez said the shooting scares him and now he fears for his children's safety.

Police say they've ordered an autopsy and are working to piece this murder together. Thomas was booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail Sunday evening. A justice of the peace set bond Monday afternoon at $1 million.
