5/24/10 Nacogdoches Police report

Theft - 2000 block of Durst Street:  A riding lawn mower was reported stolen from a residence.

Retaliation - 3200 block of North Street: A complainant reported receiving a threatening telephone call in retaliation for calling the police on an incident.

Possession of marijuana - 2100 block of Pearl: A officer stopped a vehicle on a traffic violation. The driver was found to have suspected marijuana on her person and was arrested.

Assault - 1000 block of Douglass Road:  Complainant reported that he was assaulted by several known suspects. No serious injury; warrant requested.

DWLI - Old Tyler Road at Powers: A vehicle was stopped with no registration or inspection. The driver was found to have a suspended driver's license and no insurance. The driver was arrested.

Theft - 100 block of North Street: A tool box with tools was taken from the bed of a pickup.

Burglary of a vehicle - 1600 block of East Starr: A vehicle was forcibly entered and a radio and DVD player was removed.

Hit and run-DWI - 3900 block of Old Lufkin Road:  Officers responded to a hit and run accident. The suspect vehicle was located, and the driver was suspected of being intoxicated. The driver was arrested.

    During a Monday night special meeting, Nacogdoches Independent School District named Sandra Dowdy the lone finalist for the superintendent position. Dowdy has served as interim for the last several months. Per a press release from NISD, Dowdy was selected from a field of 45 applicants. A state mandated 21-day period must pass between the board naming her as the lone finalist and formally naming her as the next superintendent of Nacogdoches schools.
