Police say Lufkin teacher aide assaulted 4-year-old

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A teacher's aide at Slack Elementary has been arrested after police say she struck a four-year-old boy three times than slammed his head into the wall.

Detective David Cross said Debra Martin Fuqua, 54, of Lufkin turned herself in Thursday on a charge of injury to a child. According to the arrest affidavit another teacher's aide witnessed the assault by Fuqua.

The teacher aide who witnessed the assault claims Fuqua took the victim to the boy's restroom and while at the restroom Fuqua hit the boy three times on the side of the head, and then pushed the boy's head into the wall real hard causing pain to the child.

The witness reported the assault to the principal and after investigating the school terminated Fuqua.

According to the Angelina County Jail, Fuqua was released on a $5,000 bond.
