Nacogdoches schools slated for improvements from federal bond

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Improvements are slated for Nacogdoches ISD campuses this summer with the help of a $ 7.9 million bond from the federal government.

Tile will be replaced in hallways and classrooms.

The high school auditorium will also be remodeled, while some of the money will go toward roofing and air conditioning for the campuses.

The money became available in November, and the government is now deciding what projects will be funded.

Several requirements have to be met for districts to be eligible including a certain percent of the district's students being low-income.

"It's a little less stressful.  It does allow us to do some of the projects that we otherwise might not have been able to fund from local funds," said NISD Director of Facilities, Chris Davis.

The bond will have to be paid back.

All of the money must be spent within the next three years.
