Nacogdoches funeral home holding Memorial Day celebration

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors of Nacogdoches will be holding a special event on Monday, May 31, in celebration of Memorial Day.

In recognizing the memory of the men and women who have served our country, the Cason Monk-Metcalf staff invites the community to come by the location from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for the activities. Free hot dogs and drinks will be available to visitors.

A nice photo/DVD tribute to our community's veterans who have passed away will be offered for viewing during the day's events. Several local families have provided photographs of their loved ones who served our country.

When veterans pass away, a U.S. Flag is available to the veterans' families. For families who have received flags, Cason Monk-Metcalf will at this time be providing these families an attractive cherry wood case to display their flags. This offer is for all families in the Nacogdoches area who have lost a veteran since January 2009 regardless if Cason Monk-Metcalf served the family at the time of loss. Also available will be small flags that visitors may take to the cemeteries and place on the graves of their loved ones.

Many families have already reserved their free flag case, however, this is not a requirement and all are welcome to come by during the event. A variety of other information and items will be available to visitors.

Aaron J. Welles, location manager at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, states that this is a small way that he and the funeral home's staff can show appreciation to the great men and women who have served this great nation, as well as their families who often made great sacrifices.

Please limit one flag case per veteran family. Free flag cases will be available while supplies last.

"Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors would like the Nacogdoches Community to know that we honor and support our military veterans," Welles concludes.

Cason Monk-Metcalf has been serving Nacogdoches County and surrounding communities since 1893 and is located at 5400 North Street across from the entrance to Sunset Memorial Park.
