CENTER, TX (KTRE) - Two Shelby County deputies were fired Thursday afternoon after getting into a fistfight with one another outside the front door of the sheriff's office, Shelby County Sheriff Newton Johnson said.
Johnson said it took deputies using pepper spray to break up the fight between Desmond McDaniel and Kevin Gratehouse.
The altercation began at about 12:15 p.m. with a verbal argument that led to the fistfight.
Johnson said he did not know what started the fight, but that he fired them within three minutes after the fight was broken up.
Johnson said both had been employed with the office for several years.
"They were both good deputies," he said. "But I won't tolerate that kind of behavior. It's unacceptable."
