HUDSON, TX (KTRE) - A standoff between a man and Angelina County deputies ended peacefully when the man turned himself in.

According to Sgt. Sergio Luna, the man had been in a fight with a family member and took a rifle into a wooded area near a residence on the 7200 block of State Highway 94. The man threatened to "hurt" himself and anyone who tried to stop him.

Luna said he was able to talk to the man on the phone, who said he had gotten rid of the gun before he reached his location, and it was not loaded anyway. He had just wanted to bring attention to himself.

The man was not charged with a crime and released to his father.
