LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Federal authorities have arrested and raided the office of Dr. Alexander Orlov, who runs a private practice in Lufkin.
A spokesperson with the Angelina County Jail said Orlov was booked into the jail on three charges: conspiracy to commit health care fraud, wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. No bond had been set on the charges.
His assistant, Rasheed Rehman, was also booked on a charge of conspiracy to commit health care fraud.
A person with the U.S. Attorney General's Office said all questions would have to go through the Beaumont office. Spokeswoman Davilyn Watson of the U.S. Attorney General's office said she could not comment on sealed indictments.
Sheriff Kent Henson said Orlov would stay the night in the jail, then be transported to Beaumont for a federal hearing at 2:30 p.m.
The Angelina County Sheriff's Office and Lufkin Police, along with federal authorities, conducted the raid around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday.
Orlov is a physician of preventive medicine and owns the Urgent Care facility on Gaslight Boulevard.
Martha Thompson, of Chandler, said she was in the doctor's office when authorities knocked on the door, came in and told her to stay put and that Orlov is being investigated for medicare fraud.
Thompson said Orlov has treated her mother for dementia for the past three years. She said the officer told her to write down all medication the mother was taking.
Orlov received his degree from University of North Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Urgent Care should not be confused with the Urgent Doc clinic, also in Lufkin.
