LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A roofing business owner accused of falsifying information in attempts to secure building permits for tornado victims made a court appearance Thursday morning.

Al Charanza, who is the attorney for Jason McKnight, 43, of Wells, asked for access to the prosecution's evidence against McKnight.

The district attorney's office agreed to turn over a list of witnesses and prior criminal offenses which might be used against him in trial.

Mcknight is charged with ten counts of tampering with governmental records.

He was arrested after permit problems with his roofing repair company were allegedly uncovered after December's tornado in Lufkin.

He's back in jail after bonding out for the tampering charges, because he was recently arrested on assault charges.
