NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A judge granted a reduced bond in the amount of $50 thousand for a Hemphill man, bond was set at $1 million back in May.

According to an application for writ of habeas corpus, Gerald Thomas, 49, feels entitled to a lower amount. His reason for the request was there is no factual basis for a bond in the amount of $1 million, and he has strong ties to the community and is known as being a law-abiding and hard-working citizen.

Thomas was released from the Nacogdoches County Jail Thursday afternoon after posting bond, according to jail records.

Gerald Thomas, 49, is charged with murder in the shooting death of Tore Ratcliff, 28.

According to the affidavit, police contacted Thomas following the disturbance at Ratcliff's house, on the 800 block of Richmond Street. The affidavit states Thomas shot Ratcliff during an argument.
