LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Friday, Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Bill White stopped in Lufkin to talk to East Texans about the importance of education.

He discussed high drop-out rates in Texas and skyrocketing tuition prices.

White says he will work hard to keep education a top priority if elected governor.

"We need to listen to local school boards. We need to make sure that teachers are not simply teaching to one multiple choice test but they're encouraged to teach reading and lifetime learning skills," said White.

Bill White will be in Nacogdoches Saturday, making a stop at the Texas blueberry festival.
