LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Longtime Lufkin City councilman R. L. Kuykendall has apparently been unseated in his bid for re-election.
Kuykendall faced newcomer Victor L. Travis in a runoff election Saturday, after the two emerged from a field of 4 as the top vote getters last month.
Thirty-four people cast early votes for Kuykendall in Saturday's runoff, while 47 people voted for Travis.
On election day, 44 people voted for Kuykendall and 41 for Travis, giving Travis the apparent win by just 8 votes.
Kuykendall was elected to the Lufkin City Council in May 1998. He served as Mayor Pro Tem from 2000 - 2001.
The Lufkin City Council will now canvass the votes to confirm Travis' apparent 88-80 victory.
