NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX, (KTRE) - Nacogdoches County Sheriff Thomas Kerss is posting this ad: "Wanted: qualified jailers."
Jail population numbers are up. More jailers are needed to comply with the state's jail standards.
Last month's "monster docket," where plea bargains were offered to a large number of inmates bought the county some time.
But it doesn't permanently take care of the seasonal climb of inmates. The sheriff says he wants only serious applicants.
"It takes a servant heart and a servant attitude and a lot of education and training that goes into learning the position. It really takes a special type of person to successfully do this job and those are the people that we'll be seeking out, not just people desperate for a job," said Kerss.
Today, Nacogdoches County jailers are supervising 250 inmates. The jail's capacity is 292.
