LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A district judge has ordered a psychological examination of a Rivercrest man accused in the shooting deaths of three people.
According to prosecuting attorney Julie Alston, the evaluation is used to ensure Raymond Wilson II, 45, is mentally competent to understand the court process.
"I'm pretty sure he does understand it," Alston said. "But it's not an unusual thing to do for a capital murder case."
Wilson is charged with capital murder in the deaths of Lisa Zumwalt, 42, Douglas Wade, 65, and Sherry Wood, 47. According to previous reports, investigators believe Wilson killed the three after his girlfriend, who was one of the victims, told him she had slept with the other two.
Alston said a possible trial would begin in the fall. She said the decision to pursue the death penalty has not yet been made.
