LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – A Lufkin church held a "Father's Day Extravaganza" Sunday. The big day dedicated to dads included a gun and knife show, motorcycles, classic cars and even a performance by a 2009 American Idol finalist.
The event attracted hundreds of dads. Father of two, Martin Couch, said he was excited when he learned what gadgets he could possibly purchase. Gadgets aside, Couch let us in on one of his biggest blessings.
"When we had Rachel we was told we couldn't have no more and then here he comes the day after Christmas," he said. "So, we got a good Christmas present and a good Father's Day present."
On this Father's Day, we spotted baby Tanner, who can barely walk, dance as Michael Sarver performs.
"It was a huge honor to be asked here. I was quite honored by it," said Michael Sarver.
After American Idol, Sarver landed a record deal and spends weekends traveling and performing. He's thankful to share stardom with his children.
"Between a father and his children, it showed them a dream coming true. So, later on in life no matter what it is they want to do they watched their daddy see his dream fulfilled," said Sarver.
As for Couch, being a dad is his dream. He said his children have taught him an important virtue.
"Patience! Patience, patience, patience. And keep your eyes on the Lord and anything is possible," he said.
This was the first year for Clawson Assembly of God to host the "Father's Day Extravaganza." Vendors said the event was a success.
