FRISCO, Texas – In addition to their two Southland Conference title, and three runner-up finishes during the 2009-10 season, the Stephen F. Austin men's and women's cross country and track and field teams proved that they are just as successful in the classroom. SFA had 11 athletes named to the 2010 Capital One Bank/Academic All-Southland Conference teams announced league officials Monday afternoon.
The Ladyjacks had nine athletes named to the list, while the SFA men had two. SFA received the most honorees of any conference school, and nearly doubled its next closest competition. SFA also had three athletes with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
The 'Jacks two honorees were distance runners Harmon McClanahan and Adam Saloom. The Ladyjacks who were named to the all-academic team consisted of seniors Kaitlyn Andrews and Frednisha Marshall, junior Amy Shackelford, sophomores Danielle Burchett, Stephanie Ganter, Carrie Hahn, Macy Wade, Lauren Watts and Randi Wymer.
The teams are comprised of student-athletes who competed in cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field. Student-athletes earn automatic qualification onto the Academic All-SLC team if they maintain a 3.0 GPA in addition to earning either first-team all-conference honors in any of the three seasons, and/or a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.
