NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin senior Briana Bishop has been named to the Academic All-Southland Conference Softball Team, according to an announcement made by league officials on Tuesday. Bishop earned a spot on the first team for the second time in as many seasons and is making her third straight appearance on the academic all-conference squad.
As a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree, Bishop earned an automatic slot on the Southland's first team. The College Station native earned a 3.53 GPA through the Fall 2009 semester and graduated cum laude this spring with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, minoring in psychology.
Tuesday's honor marks the second Southland postseason award for Bishop this season. She also earned First-Team All-Conference recognition at third base for the second straight year after wrapping up one of the most impressive careers in Ladyjack history. Bishop leaves the program as its career leader in home runs (36) RBI (132), doubles (37) and walks (86). She batted .297 with a .568 slugging percentage in 2010.
Bishop is one of just four players on this year's Academic All-Southland team to earn the award for all three seasons in which she was eligible. Her selection gives SFA at least one academic honoree in each of the last four campaigns.
