LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Tuesday morning they started out at a wrecker service lot. Now, the suspected car burglars are across the street. In jail.

"We'd like to think that our youth is frankly better than that," said Cindy Due, owner of Due's Wrecker Service.

Nineteen-year-olds Jimmy Aguilar and Eduardo Gonzales were charged with vehicle burglary. A nearby resident called police when they saw strangers in their backyard.

"One of the subjects ran from the officers and two subjects ended up running directly to where officers were," Lufkin Police spokesman J.B. Smith said.

"They had apprehended a couple of individuals who had a lot of stereos and equipment out of the truck," Due said. "They had followed the trail back to our lot."

The owner at Due's Wrecker Service says video surveillance and an alarm system scared off the burglars and just feet away people caught the suspects with vehicle emblems and radio trim plates.

A six-foot chain link fence with barbed wire didn't keep them out, but cameras captured them inside, breaking into about eight vehicles, Due said.

"It's a violation," Due said. "I know this is our business, but to us it's our lives, it's just like our home and you feel very violated when they come in to something that belongs to you and that you try so hard to protect."

Even though the suspects broke one of the cameras the company had other eyes watching the lot.

"We have a secured system in place so we reviewed all the footage on our cameras and could clearly see the individuals and what they had done," Due said.

The camera doesn't lie, but Due is still surprised at what they apparently tried to steal.

"A can of body spray and some fireworks that they had found in a vehicle and it's random things and they're risking their future just to grab what they can grab and it makes no sense," Due said.
