LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - KTRE should be available to DISH customers by Oct. 1, according to General Manager Pierre Cromartie.
According to Cromartie, the contract negotiated between DISH and KTRE targets the availability on that date, which is 90 days from July 1. Cromartie said he hopes it will come sooner than that.
"It's very important to the market," Cromartie said. "You do not want to live in a market where you can't see the TV station that covers the area where you live. It is important for the market to feel that the satellite companies respect and understand what they need. I'm quite pleased we can make this available for our customers."
KTRE will be available to all counties in the Tyler-Longview DMA, which include Angelina, Nacogdoches, Cherokee, Rusk, Houston, San Augustine and Sabine counties. Neighboring areas like Polk, Trinity and Shelby counties are not part of that DMA.
As for DISH's competitor, DIRECTV, Cromartie is hopeful they will follow.
"I'm hoping DIRECTV will see the importance of having KTRE," he said. He added that negotiations with the provider will come at the end of 2010.
Cromartie said KTRE will begin advertising with other media, as well as on KTRE about the partnership with DISH. He also said DISH will begin using it as a selling point, referencing a video from DISH Network applauding the agreement between the entities.
