LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – A Trinity County man has admitted to murdering his own mother and seriously wounding his stepfather following a heated argument.  The shooting occurred earlier this year.

Authorities said 47-year-old Michael Baker "snapped," shooting his mother in the head.  Sixty-seven year old Joyce Baker Stewart died at a Houston-area hospital shortly after the February incident.

Investigators said Baker also shot his stepfather, H. F. Stewart, when Stewart walked into the situation.

Hours after police arrived, Baker let his parents go one by one and then barricaded himself in their Glendale house armed with a high-powered rifle.  Swat team eventually talked Baker into surrendering.

Baker was sentenced to 15 years for the murder and aggravated assault charges.  Those sentences will run concurrently.
