ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin man spent his Fourth of July holiday behind bars, after allegedly fighting with deputies at a convenience store in the northern part of Angelina County.
According to the report, the Angelina County Sheriff's Office was called to a disturbance at 4:50 p.m. Sunday at the Polk's convenience store on U.S. 69 North. Upon arriving, they observed Norman Reed Thacker, 24, "intoxicated on narcotics," according to Lt. Pete Cooper.
Cooper said the deputies had a hard time arresting Thacker, as he at first ran away. When deputies caught up to him, he fought back. Cooper said he kicked and injured on deputy.
Jail records show Thacker is charged with assault of a peace officer, evading arrest, resisting a search and public intoxication. He is in jail with an $11,000 bond.
Thacker has a history of arrests dating back to at least 2007, with misdemeanor convictions for driving while intoxicated and deadly conduct.
