NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The SFA coliseum fits the bill for the space job fair organizers say they'll need.
"We have had over 600 customers come in to the job fairs. We have over 40 employers who are currently registered and we may get some others to register today, so we're expecting quite a crowd tomorrow," said Workforce Center Manager Catherine Adams.
The numbers reflect employers ready to hire and prospective employees ready to work, this is a misleading presumption. Most employers are not in a hiring mode. Some even face hiring freezes.
"No, they're not hiring, but they are still taking applications for people that are interested," said Workforce Center Manager Melanie Brown.
But more people have stopped looking for work because they can't get work. The biggest mistake a jobless person can make.
"We encourage customers to keep their applications active. Keep their data that's on file current," said Brown.
There are industries almost always recruiting. Call centers, like E-Tech, generally have a high turnover. Job fairs help their recruiters fill empty work stations, and those positions may be filled at the East Texas job fair.
The goal is to match employers with employees, so advisors have their game faces on to make it a winning opportunity.
The East Texas Job Fair will go on from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday at the William R. Johnson Coliseum at University Drive and East College Street.
It's free to both employers and job seekers.
No registration is required.
Be sure and look for the KTRE-East Texas news booth. We'll be happy to tell you about job opportunities with our station and in the industry.
