Update: Lufkin shooting victim treated and released from hospital

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – A man shot in the face following a fight was released from a Lufkin hospital Friday evening, according to police.

Lt. David Young with the Lufkin Police Department said the victim was treated and released from Memorial Hospital at around 6 pm.

Police said Friday's family disturbance between the victim and his girlfriend escalated to the point where several family members and friends became involved and the victim was shot in the face.

According to Sgt. David Thomas, police were trying to track down a suspect vehicle following the 1:30 p.m. shooting at Courtyard Apartments on Third Street.

Thomas said a group of people were fighting at the complex and sometime during the fight, someone pulled out a gun and fired it, injuring a black male.

Police would not release the name of the victim, but said he was in his late 30s. The incident remains under investigation.
