CENTER, TX (KTRE) - The Center Police Department has turned in part of its investigation into a fight between two former Shelby County deputies over to the district attorney's office.

Chief Jim Albers said the department is still investigating the allegations made by one of the deputies involved in the fight, but the DA's office had requested what they have learned so far.

Sheriff Newton Johnson fired former deputies Kevin Gratehouse and Desmond McDaniel in June after their fight near the front door of the sheriff's office. Gratehouse said in a previous interview that McDaniel attacked him because he was angry that Gratehouse would not lend him his fingerprinting kit.

Johnson said the Texas Rangers office is also investigating the fight.

Comment from the district attorney's office was not immediately available.
