LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Corrigan woman was arrested Thursday after she was charged with taking a lost credit card from a safe at her place of employment and charging more than $1,900 on it.
According to the police report, a complainant reported to Lufkin Police on June 15 that she mistakenly left a credit card at Lacks Furniture in Lufkin. She stated she contacted the business after she realized she left it and they agreed to place it in the store safe until she returned.
The complainant said she returned to Lacks to collect the credit card but was told by employees that they could not locate it and that "they told her they may have mailed it to her or cut it up."
The complainant said she returned home and checked activity on the account and discovered it had been used for purchases totaling $1,980.
Police contacted Katherine Marie Burton, 32, who, according to an arrest affidavit, said she stole the credit card from Lacks. She was an employee with the business and had access to the safe, the affidavit stated.
Burton was booked into the Angelina County Jail Thursday morning and posted a $1,000 bond.
