Senate vote on extending unemployment benefits set for Tuesday

WASHINGTON (KTRE) - President Barack Obama says the Senate should extend unemployment aid for those who `desperately need it.'

Benefits for 2.5 million people ran out at the end of May. Republicans say they will only support an extension if the bill is paid for and doesn't add to the national debt.

As the Senate prepares to take up an extension of unemployment benefits tomorrow, President Barack Obama is trying to portray GOP opponents as hypocritical for voting for an extension of those benefits while George W. Bush was in office, but not now.
