GROVETON, TX (KTRE) - A Trinity man pleaded guilty Monday to hitting another man's head with a brick in April 2009.

According to Trinity County District Attorney Joe Ned Dean, the assault took place on Oak Bluff Drive in Trinity.

Dean said Cedric Pettie, 22, confronted David Melvin, 19, after discovering Melvin was a witness against him in a drug case. Dean said after Pettie hit Melvin's head with a brick, he kicked him several times while screaming, "you snitched on me!"

According to Dean, Pettie was never formally charged in the drug case because a judge suppressed key evidence.

Pettie is scheduled for sentencing on Sept. 2.
