Local political activity heating up

The thermometer shows the temperature around East Texas is on the rise, but the weather isn't the only thing that's heating up.

The countdown to the November General Election has begun and the political race is underway.  Volunteers at the Nacogdoches Democratic Headquarters are working three days a week making campaign calls and encouraging Texans to get out and vote.

In a tightly contested governor's race they say it's the little things that will make a difference at the polls.  Republican incumbent Governor Rick Perry and challenger former Houston Mayor Bill White are in a foot race.  Recent surveys show Perry with a modest lead over White, however, White supporters say they're closing the gap.

Kathie Glass won the Libertarian nomination for governor.  Election Day is Tuesday, November 2.  The winner begins a four year term which starts January 18, 2011 and ends January 20, 2015.

There are also several hotly contested local races on the ballot.  Look for Countdown to the November General Election beginning in September here are KTRE.com and on the East Texas News.
